Breast Augmentation
Houston, TX

Breast augmentation through use of saline or silicone breast implants can help reshape and add volume to the breasts.

Breast Augmentation with Silicone or Saline Implants

For ACPS surgeons, breast augmentation surgery encompasses far more than simply adding volume to breasts. They give detailed attention to the subtle nuances and characteristics of a woman’s unique anatomy in order to create soft and shapely curves that appear to be a natural part of her body, in contrast to an artificial bolted-on look.

As a reflection of their reputations for excellence in breast augmentation surgery, ACPS surgeons have been invited to participate on three investigational teams sponsored by the nation’s leading breast implant manufacturers, with the goal to make implants “softer, prettier, and better: in order to give you exceptional aesthetic results. As a result, the newest generation of breast implants are not only more authentic in look and feel to natural breast tissue, but also more durable in construction.

During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to try on saline and silicone implants of various sizes in order to help you visualize and determine the look you want to achieve through breast augmentation surgery. ACPS surgeons take into account both your size preferences as well as the unique characteristics of your anatomy in order to evaluate and recommend the implant syle and volume that will give you the results you desire.

Although breast enlargement surgery is completed in just one to two hours as an outpatient procedure, its effects are frequently positive and transformative not only to a woman’s appearance, but to her sense of feminine beauty and self-confidence.

Breast Augmentation Candidacy

Below are some of the most common concerns our surgeons improve through breast augmentation:
  • your breasts have lost volume and shapeliness as a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, and/or aging
  • you are tired of relying on padded bras and push-up bras to create the feminine curves you desire
  • you want to feel sexier and confident so you can more fully enjoy intimacy
  • you have small, underdeveloped, or noticeably asymmetrical breasts due to genetics and/or a congenital condition
Breast enlargements with silicone or saline implants give breasts a fuller, shapelier look so you can enjoy a greater sense of confidence during intimacy and when you wear form-fitting blouses, strapless dresses, swimsuits, t-shirts.

Choosing Your Breast Implants

There are many different breast implants on the market.  The majority of our patients seek a breast shape that appears natural, youthful, and well proportioned with the rest of the body.  Silicone-filled breast implants are a popular choice because they have a natural feel that is comparable to breast tissue.  In addition, for patients who have a thinner build, silicone implants typically produce a more natural appearance than saline breast implants, particularly around the edges of the implants.

Despite the trend toward the use of silicone implants, some patients and surgeons prefer saline implants. In contrast to silicone breast implants, which are pre-filled with a cohesive silicone gel, saline implants are filled with sterile saline water after being placed inside the breast pockets.

Some surgeons feel saline implants are advantageous because they require a smaller incision, and, since they are inflated after being placed inside the breast pocket, the volume can be adjusted accordingly to balance out any physical asymmetries between the breasts. However, this goal also is achievable with silicone implants. Frequently, ACPS surgeons use two different size silicone implants for a patient in order to harmonize the appearance of breasts that vary in size and shape.

As a result of improvements that have been made to breast implants, the newest generation of implants are not only more authentic in look and feel to natural breast tissue, but also more durable in their construction. While women appreciate the advances that have been made to improve the look and feel of implants, the greatest reward for most is the newfound satisfaction and confidence they feel when they see their reflection in the mirror. There are three major FDA approved breast implant manufacturers: Allergan Natrelle®, Sientra®, & Mentor®.  All three manufactures produce a quality product.  Your surgeon can help advise you on the best product for you.

Sientra Breast Implants

When choosing an implant be sure to choose an FDA approved high quality breast implant.  At the ACPS® we put the safety of our patients first.  We only offer the highest quality implants from the best manufacturers.  Sientra® is one of our preferred vendors.  Their silicone gel breast implant has one of the highest safety profiles on the market, with some of the lowest complication rates.   This statement is backed by a robust 10-year study performed for the FDA.   Not only are Sientra® implants safe but they are backed by one of the best warranties of any of the major breast implant manufacturers. The surgeons and staff at ACPS® can help you select a high quality breast implant that is right for you.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

In the breast enlargement procedure, small incisions are made in the crease under the breasst. Silicone or saline implants are then placed within small pockets that are formed behind the chest muscle. ACPS surgeons have found that placing the implants beneath the chest muscle produces the best aesthetic result, giving the breasts a gentler slope and a more natural teardrop shape. Silicone implants are placed pre-filled into the pockets, while saline implants are filled with sterile saline water after being placed inside the breast pockets .Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia and takes approximately one to two hours to complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Though breast implants can be long-lasting for many women, some women choose to exchange their implants for aesthetic reasons such as a desire for a different size or implant filling. However, unless patients are experiencing breast hardening or other potential issues that require revision, in most cases, saline implants do not require replacement, while manufactures of silicone implants recommend replacement every 15 years.

Because implants, like most medical devices, are not designed to last a lifetime, ideally patients should visit their surgeon each year for an annual examination so that surgical results can be monitored. Because of this visit’s importance, ACPS surgeons include the annual follow-up exams in the original fee that is paid for surgery.

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that aims to enhance the size, shape, and symmetry of the breasts by placing saline or silicone implants behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The surgeon makes an incision either around the areola, in the breast crease, or in the armpit, and then creates a pocket for the implant, which can be filled with a sterile saline solution or a silicone gel.

Breast augmentation is suitable for women who want to improve the appearance of their breasts, whether due to developmental issues, aging, pregnancy, or personal preferences. Good candidates should be in good health, have realistic expectations, and be aware of the risks and limitations of the procedure, such as implant rupture, leakage, or malpositioning, and the need for periodic monitoring and possibly replacement.

Like any surgery, breast augmentation has potential risks and complications, including infection, bleeding, anesthesia reactions, and scarring. However, with a qualified plastic surgeon and proper care, breast augmentation is a safe procedure with a high success rate.

There are two primary types of breast implants available – saline and silicone. Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater, while silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. Each type of implant has its own benefits and drawbacks, so it’s important to discuss your options with your surgeon.

While breast implants should not have any significant impact on breastfeeding, it’s possible that they may reduce the amount of milk produced. If you are considering breast implants and are planning to breastfeed in the future, be sure to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

Breast implants are not lifetime devices and may need to be replaced at some point. The lifespan of breast implants varies from patient to patient, but the average lifespan is approximately 10-15 years.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that breast implants increase the risk of breast cancer. However, it’s still important to follow proper breast cancer screening guidelines.

The decision to undergo breast augmentation is a personal one that should be made after careful consideration and discussion with a qualified plastic surgeon. While breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and boost your confidence, it’s important to have realistic expectations and a thorough understanding of the procedure.
